What Do The Atlas (c-1) And Axis(c-2) Have to Do With Neck Pain? | Dr. Drew Hall Los Angeles Neck Chiropractor

Neck pain is a common condition that plagues 15 million Americans on a daily basis. Chronic neck pain can disrupt ones daily activities and make life less enjoyable. In this blog and video that follows we will discuss how thLos Angeles Neck Chiropractore upper cervical spine can be a cause of chronic neck pain.  Every year thousands of neck injuries happen as a result of traumas.  When neck injuries occur the soft tissue ligaments and muscles sustain injury.  The joints in the neck can misalign which causes irritation and interference tot he central nervous system.  In our Los Angeles offices our doctors specialize in correcting spinal misalignments at the neck skull junction. This head skull junction is both vital to normal function and structurally precarious. The head on average weighs 12  pounds and the atlas(c-1) weighs 2 ounces.  Because of this bio-mechanical instability neck injuries are common and can be the underlying reason people suffer with chronic neck pain and other health problems. In the video that follows Dr. hall will discuss how the neck , nervous system, and muscles interplay and can be the source of your chronic neck pain.

What is the Goal of Blair Upper Cervical Care? Los Angeles Neck Chiropractor

The goal of upper cervical care is to correct atlas(c-1) and axis(c-2) misalignments.  Upper cervical doctors run objective neurological test to determine whether or not a person has an upper neck misalignment. Once located precise x-rays are taken to determine direction of the misalignment and the angle of the joints that are involved. This information is then used to make precise correction to the atlas or axis. Once corrected the patient is monitored over time to make sure they are maintaining the correction. If the correction has misaligned again another correction is made.  If  the tests indicate it is in alignment no correction is made on that visit. While the correction is maintained is when healing accrues.
“Upper Cervical practitioners hypothesize based on their success in addressing neck pain that the misalignment of the atlas is blocking communication to various parts of the body and thereby affecting the body’s own ability to correct the problem. “
We hope that his blog has been helpful and informative and leads those who suffer in the direction of healing!
