Are Chiropractor Legit?

Can a chiropractor help with herniated disc in neck?

Surgery is sometimes necessary when spinal disc bulge presents. If there is a complete prolapse of the disc, surgery is your only option. With this said in our Los Angeles based upper cervical health care offices we have found that cervical disc problems measuring 8 mm or les respond favorably to Blair Upper Cervical Technique.  Once cervical disc bulge exceeds 8 mm the chance for recovery reduces. The largest disc we have seen recover was 12 mm.

Cervical disc injury is often helped by Blair Upper Cervical Care because the brainstem houses the atlas and axis which controls postural muscle tone. When a cervical disc is injured from either an acute injury or repetitive stress, due to postural imbalance, the disc cannot “ fix” itself because of increased pressure between the vertebrae due to muscle spasm.

Because the brainstem controls the postural muscles, when the upper cervical spinal misalignment is corrected the deep layer of postural muscles relax, the posture improves which leads the disc herniation recovery in many cases.

Can chiropractic help with degenerative disc disease in neck?

Degenerative disc disease in the neck is caused by long term postural faults. Forward head carriage and increased muscle tone at the neck shoulder junction overtime lead to degenerative changes in the cervical spine and can lead to degenerative disc disease.

The best care for degenerative disc disease is preventing it before it starts. Starting Upper Cervical care prior to developing long standing postural problems in the first place can prevent degenerative disc disease.

If someone is suffering with degenerative disc disease, correcting the underlying cause, upper cervical spinal misalignment, can slow it’s process, improve the symptoms associated with it , and prevent surgical intervention if it has not progressed too far.

What do chiropractors do?

Chiropractors are specially trained to locate spinal misalignment that are interfering with normal nervous system function.  Precise  imaging is used to ascertain how the joints of the spinal misalignment have displaced. This information is used to make precise, gentle corrections to the joints that have misaligned to restore motion and correction irritation to the nervous system.

Chiropractic is a vitalistic health care procedure that acknowledges that the body is intelligent and self healing. Recognizing this, chiropractors increase health and function by removing structural barriers to the most fundamental aspect of function, the nervous system. Instead of diagnosing effects, chiropractors are concerned with maximizing function through the monitoring and correction of spinal misalignment.

How often should I go to the chiropractor?

How often you should see a chiropractor is dependent upon many factors. In our upper cervical health care office in Los Angeles our goal is to correct spinal misalignment in the upper neck, stabilize it, and then keep the patients spine clear for the rest of their life.

Since the central nervous system is the seat of control for ALL functions in the body life long monitoring is crucial to optimal health. Therefore, like a dentist, the nervous system should be checked and monitored over a person’s life.

When a patient begins upper cervical chiropractic care, they are typically monitored twice a week for a month and once a week for a month. The goal of chiropractic is to get the misaligned vertebrae to stay in its normal range of motion for as long as possible.

If a patient stays in alignment well from the start of care they will be seen less earlier than a case that is more unstable. The goal of upper cervical chiropractic care is to “ hold” the correction so the central nervous system can function optimally. Over time most patients heal, mend, and repair and their spinal misalignments become stable and the need for care diminishes.

The last phase of chiropractic care is called wellness care. This is similar to a patient who visits a dentist for teeth cleaning even though their teeth do not hurt. When a patient is stabilized and asymptomatic they typically will be asked to be checked for spinal misalignment every 6-8 weeks. This is prudent as patients can have mishaps through their daily life that can cause spinal misalignment and decrease nervous system function. Correcting spinal misalignment before it becomes symptomatic is sound, proactive health care.

Why does my neck make a crunching sound?

It is very common for people to hear grinding, popping, and cracking noises in their necks. It is NOT normal and is a sign that the structure of the neck is imbalanced.  When someone sustains a prior neck injury, the muscles become asymmetric in their tone, which alters posture , and can lead to the joints in the neck to misalign.

Misaligned joints in combination with tight muscles and tendons can lead to several different sounds in the neck described above. While these sounds will not kill you they are a sign that the structure of the neck is abnormal and indicate the need for precision upper cervical care.

Because the postural muscles of the neck and spine are controlled in the brainstem( housed by the first and second cervical vertebrae) misalignment in this region of the neck can be the underlying cause of cracking and popping of the neck.

Blair Upper Cervical chiropractors specialize in correcting these misalignments to restore normal joint biomechanics, reduce nervous system interference, and to promote healing.  If you are suffering with chronic pooping in the neck getting to a well trained upper cervical chiropractor can help.
