What is Menopause?

Menopause is defined as the point in time when menstrual cycles permanently cease due to the natural depletion of ovarian eggs from aging. The diagnosis is typically made retrospectively after the woman has missed menses for 12 consecutive months. It marks the permanent end of fertility and the average age of menopause is 51 years.


What are menopause symptoms?

Menopause is a natural change that occurs in a women’s body resulting from the depletion of ovarian follicles/oocytes and is associated with lower levels of estrogen. Low estrogen can result in changes in blood flow (such as hot flushes and night sweats), psychological changes (such as mood swings, depression, and difficulty concentrating), insomnia, genital tract atrophy (such as vaginal dryness, painful intercourse, and urinary incontinence), skin changes (such as thinning and decreased elasticity). Lower androgen levels (male hormones) can contribute to the loss of sex drive.


Pre-Menopause Symptoms

Premenopause is when you have no symptoms of going through perimenopause or menopause. You still have periods (whether they’re regular or irregular) and are considered to be in your reproductive years. Some hormonal changes may be occurring, but there are no noticeable changes in your body. On the other hand, during perimenopause, you will start to experience symptoms of menopause (for example, changes in period cycle, hot flashes, sleep disturbances, or mood swings). Premenopause and perimenopause are sometimes used interchangeably, but technically they have different meanings.


Post Menopause Symptoms

Postmenopause. These are the years after menopause. During this stage, menopausal symptoms, such as hot flashes, can ease for many women. But, as a result of a lower level of estrogen, postmenopausal women are at increased risk for a number of health conditions, such as osteoporosis and heart disease. Medication, such as hormone therapy and/or healthy lifestyle changes, may reduce the risk of some of these conditions. Imaging the joints will allow the doctor to see how you are out of alignment and the angulation of your joints.

This information is then used to make a precise spinal correction unique to the individual's misalignment and anatomy. Once corrected, the patient is then monitored over time to ensure that the body is healing, and the correction is staying on its normal range of motion. If on subsequent visits the vertebrae have misaligned again another correction is administered. If the objective tests indicate that there is no interference and the vertebrae are in their proper range of motion, then no correction is necessary.
