Common Chiropractic Pediatric Conditions - Upper Cervical Pediatric Conditions

There are many common pediatric chiropractic conditions that respond well to upper cervical chiropractic care. Our Los Angeles Upper Cervical Chiropractic offices have been helping kids for 18 years overcome chronic ear infections, speech delay, chronic tonsil infections, ADDHD, sensory processing disorders, and asthma.

To many in the public, these seem like outrageous claims.  There is a plethora of research that shows that when upper cervical spine corrections are needed, they can affect all of these conditions either improve or recover completely. (1,2,3,4) In this article, we will discuss how upper cervical misalignment can impact the brainstem and central nervous system impacting neurodevelopment in pediatrics and how correction of the upper cervical spine can lead to improvements and or recoveries in children who suffer from these conditions.

Chronic Pediatric Ear Infections

Chronic ear infections in children is the most common chiropractic pediatric conditions that is helped by upper cervical chiropractors’ is well known that the anatomy of the Eustachian tube in pediatrics is situated in a horizontal plane.

As children develop the Eustachian tube slants towards the throat from the inner ear at a steeper angle. This anatomical fact makes children more susceptible to having fluid trapped in their inner ear.

Couple this eustachian tube susceptibility with an upper neck injury and you create the perfect storm for chronic ear infections. The eustachian tube is controlled by the tensor veli palatini, levator veli palatini,  salpingopharyngeus, and  tensor tympani. Upper Cervical Spine misalignment can interfere with the neurology that controls these muscles and consequently increase their tone causing eustachian tube dysfunction Eustachian tube dysfunction makes children more susceptible to chronic ear infections. Upper cervical spine corrections can improve Eustachian tube patency and decrease the susceptibility to chronic ear infections.

Chronic Tonsillitis

Chronic tonsillitis is another common chiropractic pediatric condition that responds favorably to upper cervical spinal corrections. (5,6) It is estimated that percent of kids suffer from chronic tonsillitis. In the past, the medical establishment was removing tonsils of everyone ignorant of the fact that the tonsils are an important organ of the immune system.

Speech Delay

Speech delay is an ever-increasing pediatric health issue. No one knows exactly why speech delay is increasing, but many alternative care doctors and researchers are putting part of the blame on increased vaccination rates, poorer diets, and women having kids at an older age. In our Los Angeles Upper Cervical Health Care office speech delay is one of the common pediatric chiropractic conditions that respond wonderfully to this natural form of care.

We have seen many kids over the years with speech delay recover their speech following upper cervical spinal correction. Because the central nervous system controls ALL body functions, interference to its normal function can affect any process in the body and it is possible if the structural inference to the nervous system is removed any body system can improve.  There are many pieces of scientific literature that show spinal corrections in the neck can improve or completely ameliorate speech delay in pediatric patients. (7,8)

Neuro Sensory Processing Disorders-Common Chiropractic Pediatric Conditions Affecting Neuro Sensory Processing Disorders

Around five percent of children are diagnosed with a sensory processing disorder. A sensory processing disorder is a person who has problems with understanding, detecting and communicating with sensory stimuli.  Common chiropractic pediatric conditions affecting neurosensory processing are ADD, autism, and ADDHD.

All three of these sensory processing disorders can respond favorably to upper cervical spine corrective care. (9,10) There are many different theories on why there are more people diagnosed with sensory processing disorders now than ever before.

Many have postulated why there is such a rapid rise in neurosensory processing disorders such as GMO foods, poor diet, increased vaccination schedule and overload of chemicals in food air and water.  There is also speculation that trauma during birth can damage the upper cervical spine of an infant, which is considered the most delicate part of the child’s body.

Upper cervical spine misalignment can interfere with normal nervous system function and be a causative factor in neurosensory processing disorders. In Blair upper cervical chiropractic, we call this structural misalignment causing nerve interference a SUBLUXATION.

What is Blair Upper Cervical Chiropractic? Common Pediatric Chiropractic Conditions

Blair Upper Cervical Chiropractors are trained to locate and correct upper neck spinal misalignments that impact the central nervous system function aberrantly. This is done through neurological tests that indicate the presence or absence of nerve irritation and at what level it is occurring. Once determined precise imaging is used in the form of cone beam computed tomography (CBCT)or digital x-ray to look at each individual joint to determine the direction and magnitude of misalignment.

This information is used to make a precise spinal correction which includes no twisting popping or pulling of the neck. The goal of Blair Upper Cervical Care is “hold” the correction for as long as possible.

Each day the vertebrae are in its normal biomechanical range of motion healing occurs. The soft tissues surrounding the joint mend and repair, normal joint motion is re-established and most importantly the central nervous system function becomes more normal.

All parts of the body are related and controlled through the central nervous system. If your child suffers from one of the common pediatric chiropractic conditions, we discussed above it would be wise to have their upper cervical spine assessed by a Blair upper cervical chiropractor.
