Ear Pain Due to Cervical Spine Arthritis

Posted in Arthritis on Aug 20, 2018

In November 1991 An interesting article was published in Headache which elucidated the connection between ear pain due to cervical spine arthritis.  The article describes patients who suffered from ear pain due to cervical spine arthritis.

There is an intimate connection between the ear, the neck and trauma to the neck as an underlying cause of neck and ear pain. The method involved in this research publication that leads to relief for the patient was facet injection and corticosteroid injection of the c-1 and c-2 facets.

The conclusion of the research publication was that in cases of ear pain it may not be the ear but referred from the facet joints of the neck.  In this article, we would like to discuss a little-known procedure whose goal is to realign the facet joints of the neck through precise spinal corrections that do NOT involve twisting popping or pulling of the neck.

Neck Facet Joints- Ear Pain Due to Cervical Spine Arthritis- What is the Connection?

Facet syndrome is a condition in which the joints of the spine become irritated or damaged resulting in pain that radiates to parts of the body along known as a dermatome.  Cervical pain and ear pain are common cousins. Interestingly, the c-2 dermatome wraps up and over the ear.

It is possible that facet syndrome of the atlas axis joints can cause ear pain as found in this small study. Clinically speaking facet syndrome is grouped into a condition known as cervical spine arthritis.  Arthritis is simply put inflammation and degeneration of the joints.  Next, we will discuss a natural procedure that can help you find relief from ear pain due to cervical spine arthritis.

What Can I do Naturally to Help Ear Pain Due To Cervical Spine Arthritis?

You have been diagnosed with cervical spine arthritis. Your joints have degenerated, and it can be seen on x-ray or MRI. You aren’t opposed to pain killers and steroid injections, but you are looking for something that can help your body heal naturally.

What you are looking for is called upper cervical chiropractic care. It’s a relatively new practically unknown procedure that changed this author's life and therefore he became an upper cervical chiropractor and now is speaking to you.

Upper cervical care is NOT a cure-all, however, it a is a powerful tool that can help your body function better and give it its best chance at healing. It is based on a simple truth. Your central nervous system controls and coordinates all body functions. Injuries to the neck can injure the soft tissue, ligaments, and muscles leading to abnormal joint motion and simultaneously cause aberrant nerve function.

The goal of upper cervical care is to restore normal joint motion thereby allowing the central nervous system to function better. Often even cases that have had long-standing degenerative changes respond, heal and improve.

What Does An Upper Cervical Chiropractor Do? Helping Ear Pain Due to Cervical Spine Arthritis

Because neck injury can be one of the causes of ear pain, Blair Upper Cervical Chiropractors use advanced imaging in the form of cone beam computerized tomography (CBCT) or digital x-ray to precisely locate upper cervical spinal misalignment.

Blair doctors are trained to view the joints of the neck to determine exactly how they have misaligned from normal. By viewing each individual joint of the neck, it is possible to see and measure joint misalignment. Once this information is recorded it is then used in a precise spinal correction which includes no twisting, popping, or pulling of the neck. The spinal correction is made while the patient is lying on their side and is painless and quick.

Once the offending joint is corrected the body will go through a healing process. The patient is monitored over time to determine at each visit whether they need another correction or not. While the correction is “holding” in its normal position normal neurophysiology is restored and healing accrues. In many cases of people with ear pain due to cervical spine arthritis and other health problems improve or fully recover.
