Prenatal Chiropractic and Pregnancy Chiropractic-Chiropractic For Pregnancy

Most moms are interested in maximizing their health prior to getting pregnant. Most women understand diet, exercise, proper sleep, reducing stress and other lifestyle factors that can increase health. Unfortunately, most of the public still does not include prenatal chiropractic care into the repertoire.

Because the central nervous system is directly controlling all body functions it is important to make sure that the spine is functioning optimally, so you and your baby can be as healthy as possible. Prior injuries such as motor vehicle accidents, sports injuries, and slip and falls in the past can lower your body's functional capacity over time if the spine injuries are not fixed.

We have found in our practice that women who are under regular upper cervical chiropractic care have less frequency of symptoms and much milder effects of the stresses and strains put on the structure of the body.

The brainstem, located inside of the top two bones in the neck, is responsible for controlling a myriad of functions in the body. One of them is spinal muscle tone. When the upper cervical spine is not misaligned and moving properly the spinal muscles are suppler and make it easier for them to accommodate the new stresses that inevitable in the spine during pregnancy.

By keeping the upper cervical spine in its proper positions and moves the body functions better, the muscles are looser and most importantly the central nervous system functions at its optimum. Seeing a chiropractor during pregnancy can have profound positive effects on the mom’s ability to deal with the new often challenging proposition of carrying a kid and all the emotions and musculoskeletal changes that occur during the process.

The upper cervical spine houses the brainstem. The brainstem is responsible for controlling muscle tone, cardiac function, respiratory function, thermoregulation and most of the functions of the body that are not under your conscious control.

Therefore, if someone has sustained a prior neck injury and the upper cervical spine is misaligned the brainstem suffers irritation and interference. Interference at the brainstem level alters postural muscle tone throughout the body. It can also affect and system in the body. The goal of Blair Upper Cervical Chiropractic is to restore normal motion to the joints in the neck that are misaligned, so the central nervous system can function normally.

Blair upper cervical doctors are specially trained to locate and correct spinal misalignments in the neck. Advanced imaging is used to look at each individual joint in the neck to view the spinal misalignment. This works because each joint in the spine and body are mirror images of one another.

Misalignment happens at the joint margin and is therefore viewable with proper imaging such as cone beam computerized tomography (CBCT) or digital x-ray.

Once these spinal misalignments are corrected the patient is then monitored overtime to ensure that the corrections are holding. While the correction is holding in its normal positions and range of motion the body functions better and repairs old damage done due to nerve interference.
