Whiplash in Adults

Studies indicated that adult women receive twice the damage in a whiplash injury than men. This is due to their slighter frames and less muscle mass surrounding the spine.

Rear-end collisions with the head turned to produce twice the damage to the cervical spine compared to when the head is straight forward. T-bone side-impact collisions produce four times the damage as a neutral rear-end impact. (2) When lateral( t-bone) injuries occur there is less range of motion in lateral bending of the neck, consequently, the joints, soft tissue, and muscles sustain more injury in this type of whiplash injury.
