Millions suffer from the nasty effects of Vertigo and Meniere's Disease. Its cause is not well understood by conventional medicine. In some cases, vertigo is the result of life-threatening medical issues such as brain tumors. But mostly, it is an insidious destroyer of the quality-of-life which, in a moment we will provide ample evidence that its cause is in the upper cervical spine. . In a moment we will draw the connection between your upper cervical spine and vestibular problems.
Our upper neck has the ability to influence balance because the muscles, joints, ligaments, and tendons all have tiny sensors within them called proprioceptors, which send information back to the brain so that the body knows where the head is in relation to the space around it. The sensors and neural pathways to the brain that make up this automatic positioning system for the head are known as the vestibule-proprioceptive system. Our ability to maintain balance and move our bodies in a coordinated fashion is dependent upon the proper functioning of this system.
Research shows that whiplash-type injuries damage the tissues of the neck. As a result, the sensors that are located there can send abnormal signals back to the brain, and feelings of dizziness will result. This type of dizziness is known by many names. The most common terms for this type of dizziness are “carcinogenic dizziness,” “cervicogenic vertigo,” and “positional vertigo.” Regardless of the term that is used, this type of dizziness is a result of a disturbance in our body’s proprioceptive system. Most patients that suffer from vertigo and Meniere’s disease suffer through a variety of tests and usually are told that there is nothing wrong with the structure of their vestibular system. IT IS NOT THE STRUCTURE THAT HOUSES THE VESTIBULAR SYSTEM THAT IS THE PROBLEM IT IS THE ABSTRACT NERVE IMPULSE THAT SUPPLIES THESE PARTS WITH INFORMATION THAT IS ABNORMAL.

Here is an analogy that may help you understand what is said above. Imagine you have a television (tv) that is 72 inches across and is getting fuzzy pictures and the sound is not synced up with the moving parts of the mouth of the person on the tv. You send out for a technician who is only schooled in looking at the parts of the TV. He tests all of the transistors, capacitors and other parts that run your tv. Each part is functioning perfectly. He says, “Well, it is not the parts of the TV must be something else.” Then you hire an electrician who comes out and finds a minor short in the electrical wires and fixes it and then TV works perfectly. Most cases of vertigo go through inner ear testing and the tests usually find that there is no problem with the parts. What underlies the parts is the INFORMATION that is sent from the joints of the neck to the vestibular apparatus and it is within that system that the CAUSE is usually located. Our bodies are run by abstract nerve impulses that you can’t see or touch. In our health care system, we only recognize the mechanical parts but IGNORE what runs it. It is the abstract impulses that Control FUNCTION.
Upper Cervical Care is a health discipline that is interested in the anatomical relationship and function of the upper cervical spine. When someone has a whiplash type trauma, damage to the supporting soft tissue of the JOINTS of the neck result in joint dysfunction. Joints not only become misaligned but the spastic muscles around the joints, which become spastic to protect the damage done to the underlying ligaments (joint capsule), limit normal joint motion. This lack of motion in the joint, muscle hypertonicity, and ligament damage sends aberrant signals into the Central Nerve System. One pathway of which can directly influence the vestibular system, resulting in vertigo, Meniere’s disease, and other vestibular problems. Upper Cervical Doctors are trained in specifically analyzing the position of the top bones in the neck, and then once it is determined how they have been injured, their goal is to restore the aberrant motion of the bone to help the body return normal motion and normal tissue health over time. Once this is accomplished, the neuro pathways that have been damaged are healed and the individual is able to once again regain a normal life. We hope that this blog has reached those who suffer and are ready to step outside the mold of conventional symptom drug based disease care. We have been practicing Upper Cervical Care in the Los Angeles region for over 14 years and have found it to be not only a blessing in our own lives but in the thousands of cases, we have helped recover from all sorts of chronic health conditions. As we always say at the end of these blogs-Nature needs no help just no interference.
