Meniere’s Disease Treatment and the Upper Cervical Spine Misalignment

Meniere’s Disease Treatment can range from diuretic medication, invasive surgeries to relieve pressure in the endolymphatic system, to natural Menières disease treatments such as acupuncture, diet modification, supplementation and upper cervical chiropractic.

This article is dedicated to a little-known procedure that is a natural Menieres disease treatment that focusses on the intimate relationship between the neck (specifically the atlas and axis) and the brainstem.  Dr. Michael Burcon, out of Grand Rapids Michigan, has published several scientific articles showing that the Blair Upper Cervical Chiropractic procedure can be life changing for a high percentage of patients who receive the care.

Most people who suffer with chronic Meniere’s Disease have tried most of the natural and mainstream Meniere’s disease treatments, but few have heard of the Blair Upper Cervical Procedure. In this article we will be highlighting why upper cervical spine injury can be the underlying cause of Menieres disease and then talk about what you can do about it.

Meniere’s Disease Treatment and The Neck

The upper cervical spine is without question the most important part of human anatomy when it comes to health and function.  The first cervical vertebrae (atlas) and second cervical vertebrae (axis) house the brainstem.

The brainstem is the seat of control for most body function that we are not conscious of. Meniere’s disease is a condition that involves dysfunction of the eustachian tube, endolymphatic system, and the underlying neurology that controls them.  There is an intimate relationship between the cervical spine and the brainstem. Injuries to the upper cervical spine can cause the posture of the body to adapt causing postural imbalance.

Most notable, when the upper cervical spine is injured, it is common for the normal lordosis(curve) of the neck to straighten which results in tensile stress on the spinal cord and brainstem.  (1) The cervical spine joints have millions of nerve endings that are intimately associated with balance.  The brainstem, coordinated with the input from the cervical spine joints, is the seat of control for the balance centers, muscles that line the eustachian tube, and overall balance.

Dr. Burcon’s research shows that in over 300 cases of Meniere’s Disease medically diagnosed, that a 97 percent recovery rate followed a course of Blair upper Cervical Chiropractic Care.  It is theorized that prior whiplash type injuries, damage the joints o f the neck, cause postural distortion, and brainstem irritation. The combination of these three factors lowers the bodies ability to function normally, affects the Eustachian tube patency, makes individuals more susceptible to allergy, and causes aberrations in the vestibular system that can all contribute to the manifestation of Meniere’s disease.

How Does Blair Upper Cervical Chiropractic Help The Body Recover From Meniere’s Disease?  Meniere’s Disease Treatment

Blair Upper Cervical Chiropractic is a system of spinal analysis that looks to the spinal joints of the upper cervical spine to view spinal misalignment caused by prior neck injuries.  Whiplash and other blunt trauma can injure the soft tissues that surround the joints of the neck and cause spinal misalignment.

The goal of Blair Upper Cervical of the Blair procedure is to locate, analyze, and correct these spinal misalignments to aid the body in self healing.  Patients are monitored over a course of care to ensure that the joints of the neck are moving properly and not interfering with central nervous system function. This is accomplished through precise non-invasive corrections to the neck and monitoring over time.

When normal motion is restored to injured areas of the upper cervical spine, the soft tissue, and neurology of the body can be restored. As stated, the upper cervical spine is the seat of control for most body function, therefore if this area of the body is corrected to its normal structure and function, healing occurs.

What Does a Blair Upper Cervical Chiropractor Do? | Meniere’s Disease Treatment

Blair Upper Cervical doctors are specially trained to find spinal misalignments in the upper cervical spine. This is determined by running the prospective patient through a battery of neurological tests that locate the spinal segments that have been injured and misaligned by a prior neck Injury.

Once located, precision imaging in the form of digital x-ray or cone beam computed tomography (Cbct) is used to precisely determine which joint has misaligned and the angulation of the offending joint. Each person’s anatomy is different and therefore imaging is used to uncover the blueprint to be used to correct each patient’s individual misalignment pattern. Once this information is gleaned, a gentle, light correction is made without twisting, popping, or pulling.

The patient is then monitored over time to ensure that the correction is holding. If the testing indicates the need for another correction, then it is performed. However, the goal of Blair Upper Cervical Care is for the patient to stay in “adjustment” . It isn’t the correction that produces healing. It is the removal of nerve irritation and the adjustment “holding” in its normal position that allows the body to function better and proceed through a healing process.
