Towel Roll Exercise To Encourage Cervical Neck Curve | Hold Your Adjustment Longer | Los Angeles Chiropractor | Upper Neck Exercises | Increase Neck Curve

Increase Neck Curve

Fig. 1 The Orange muscles in this picture are the scalene muscles. When tight they can straighten the normal cervical curve.

In this article, we would like to explain a simple exercise you can do daily that can not only help you hold your upper cervical curve correction longer but can encourage a normal cervical curve. The cervical curve is supposed to have a backwards C-shape curve. Unfortunately, most people lose the curve in their necks due to neck trauma. When neck injury occurs the muscles in the neck, especially the scalene muscles(fig. 1), tighten and pull the normal neck curve straight. It has been shown that a straight neck causes stress to the brain-stem and spinal cord causing interference to normal body function. In the video below Dr. Hall discusses how to do the towel roll exercise and how it can help you get more out of your upper cervical curve chiropractic care.

What is the Goal of Blair Upper Cervical Curve Care?

The goal of upper cervical curve care is to correct atlas(c-1) and axis(c-2) misalignments. Upper cervical curve doctors run an objective neurological test to determine whether or not a person has an upper neck misalignment. Once located precise x-rays are taken to determine a direction of the misalignment and the angle of the joints that are involved. This information is then used to make a precise correction to the atlas or axis. Once corrected the patient is monitored over time to make sure they are maintaining the correction. If the correction has misaligned again another correction is made. If the tests indicate it is in alignment no correction is made on that visit. While the correction is maintained is when healing accrues. We hope that his blog has been helpful and informative and leads those who suffer in the direction of healing!
