Will Upper Cervical Chiropractic Help Vertigo

Upper cervical chiropractors have helped thousands of vertigo sufferers find relief.  The cervical spine is intimately connected to the neuro pathways that control the vestibular function of the body. Neck injury commonly leads to vestibular problems, Vertigo, Ménière’s disease, and other balance issues respond favorably to correcting spinal misalignments at the neck skull junction.  Don’t take our word for it. Listen two what two of our patients have to say recently about upper cervical care and vertigo.

A 45 year old male seeks care. He was suffering with what he describes as an earthquake feeling following standing.  “For the past two years every time I feel like there is an earthquake for 5-10 seconds and then the feeling disappears. On top of this terrible sensation I often feel foggy headed, nauseated, fatigue, and like I have a hangover. I have tried all medical avenues, HEENT, epply maneuver, neurologist, MRI, CT, and have had everything ruled out medically but NO ONE KNOWS WHAT THE CAUSE IS.”

After my first blair upper cervical correction my earthquake feeling vanished. I could t believe it. I stood up off of the adjusting table and there was no earthquake. Ten weeks in and not only has the earthquake feeling disappeared but my energy, mental clarity, sleep pattern, and emotional system have made such great improvements its truly amazing.

The best part is I referred my sister who has suffered from constant vertigo for over 28 years. She received her first correction 8weeks ago and has only needed one adjustment. Over the past eight weeks she has co to sully I proved and her vertigo symptoms have improved over 80 percent.

The Blair Upper Cervical Technique and Dr. Hall have been a blessing. These two cases should answer the question: will chiropractic help vertigo? Blair Technique is NOT a cure all however it has been our experience in our Los Angeles based upper cervical chiropractic clinic that 80 percent of vertigo is directly caused by upper cervical spine misalignment.

Why is the upper cervical spine highly correlated to vertigo problems?

Balance in the body is a coordinated effort that synthesizes sensory input form the eyes, inner ear, and joints of the cervical spine. Most people understand that an inner ear infection can cause temporary vertigo resulting from inflammation of the inner ear structures. However, the overwhelming majority of people who suffer from chronic vertigo do not have an inner ear infection. Most are suffering from aberrant input from the cervical joints.

The atlas, axis , and third cervical vertebrae each have four joints. Each joint has millions of nerve endings that give feedback into the brainstem, vestibular nucleus, and affect the bodies ability to appropriately identify the bodies position in space and against gravity. When whiplash trauma occurs it damages the soft tissue surrounding the joints in the neck and leads to joint misalignment and abnormal input from the joint into the vestibular apparatus in the brain stem.

Chronic vertigo can result from abnormal joint mechanics causing chronic abnormal input into the vestibular system. This is why patients with chronic vertigo often experience vertigo when they have their heads in a certain position. Because of the joint injury it is more susceptible to irritation when the head is positioned in a way that irritates the affected joint.

This line of reasoning is why many who seek Blair Upper Cervical Chiropractic get life changing results with their vertigo problems. Correcting joint misalignment can allow the soft tissue to heal thus improving normal joint biomechanics, physiology, and positively affecting the vestibular system in those under care.

What Does a Blair Upper Cervical Chiropractor Do?

Blair Upper Cervical doctors are specially trained to locate spinal misalignments in the upper cervical spine and correct them. Spinal misalignment is located by running a  battery of neurological tests that locate the spinal segments that have been injured and misaligned by a prior neck Injury.

Once located, precision imaging in the form of digital x-ray or cone beam computed tomography (Cbct) are used to precisely determine which joint has misaligned and the angulation of the misaligned joint. Each person’s anatomy is different and therefore imaging is used to uncover the blueprint to be used to correct each patient’s individual misalignment pattern. Once this information is gleaned, a gentle, light correction is made without twisting, popping, or pulling.

The patient is then monitored over time to ensure that the correction is holding. If the testing indicates the need for another correction, then it is performed. However, the goal of Blair Upper Cervical Care is for the patient to stay in “adjustment”. It isn’t the correction that produces healing. It is the removal of nerve irritation and the adjustment “holding” in its normal position that allows the body to function better and proceed through a healing process.
